- Course objectives
- Quantitative Economics (PMKVEK) The course provides an insight into selected chapters of modern economic theory, whose depiction and analysis require more advanced mathematical means. The main attention is given to the analysis of economic concepts and relationships in the areas of rational behaviour of the producer (production theory) and the analysis of consumer behaviour (utility theory). In the first of these analyses, beside an outline of terms of comparative statics, also relationships between the production, cost and profit functions are explained, among others, and the other analysis, based on the properties of preferential relation, clarifies the relationships between the utility, indirect utility and expenditure functions. In the context of quoting examples of the used forms of economic functional types the explanation focuses on their properties and mutual relations. The course content includes further thematic areas: theory of index numbers (which will also reveal a low theoretical level of the instruments of Czech economic-statistical practice and limitations of the quality of designing stock exchange indexes) and the area of macroeconomic growth models, which are an instrument for understanding the connections between the most important macroeconomic variables in their mutual dynamic development. The problem of aggregation of microeconomic variables and relations into the analogous macroeconomic relations is outlined as well, including the conditions of perfect or approximate aggregation. Credit requirements: to pass a progressive skill test. Examination: written and oral.
