Syllabus
  • Query languages. Database model as a typing system for a query language. Expressive power of query languages, relational completeness, extendibility of query languages: arithmetic, aggregation functions, recursion. Query optimization. Examples: INFORMIX, ORACLE, SYBASE, INGRES.
  • Text databases.
  • Implementation techniques of query evaluation.
  • Algorithms for relation operations and their complexity. Parallel query evaluation and optimization in parallel computer architectures.
  • Transaction processing, data distribution, replications.
  • Distributed adatabases. Queries as transactions.
