Course objectives
The main aim of the subject is to introduce students to a specific environment of sports physiotherapy. General principles of Sports Physiotherapy are presented using most common diagnoses of sportsmen treated by physiotherapists. Primary prevention and implementation of preventive measures into sports training are highlighted.
Learning outcomes
Successful completion of the subject guarantees student's ability to apply general physiotherapy knowledge and skills in the specific sports environment.
Syllabus
  • General principles of sports physiotherapy - primary preventive care: quality of motor patterns, compensation of unequal work load - physical, autonomic, mental, nutritional etc.
  • General principles of sports physiotherapy - secondary preventive care: specificity of kinesiology analysis after sport injury and training maladaptation, accelerated physiotherapy protocols, training capacity and its benefits for rehabilitation, prevention of abstinence syndromes and loss of general physical performance, prevention of injury regression.
  • General principles of sports physiotherapy - tertiary preventive care.
  • Sports physiotherapy in postural disorders incl. foot arches.
  • Sports physiotherapy after ligament injuries and after surgical intervention on soft structures of knee joint.
  • Sports physiotherapy in bone fractures.
  • Sports physiotherapy in discopathies.
  • Sports physiotherapy in enthesopathies and painful humeral epicondyles.
  • Sports physiotherapy in sympatho-vagal imbalances and overtraining.
  • Sports physiotherapy in pain management.

Teaching methods
Frontal type of education with discussion.
Assessment methods
Final written test and oral exam. The student is not qualified for final oral exam in case of not fulfilling the percentage (minimum of 70% successful rate) of final written test. Final written test and final practical exam contributes to 50 and 50% of final evaluation respectively (A-F).
