- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to apply and modify aquired knowledge of basic principles of nutrition to the variable sports preparation and competition in an effort to support training adaptation, regeneration and sport performance.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course student will be able to:
- characterize the specifics of sports nutrition and to distinguish the nutrient needs from non-sports nutrition;
- orientate and correctly interpret the latest nutritional recommendations for athletes in support of regeneration, adaptation and sports performance;
- apply the basic knowledge of nutrition to the environment of various sports disciplines;
- assess and correctly set the nutritional needs of athletes of various ages and the varying intensity of the training process;
- analyze the athlete's nutritional status;
- Work with nutritional software to program individual nutritional needs of athletes;
- Apply specific nutritional strategies optimizing sports performance;
- Identify health risks resulting from the variability of the training process and can recommend appropriate nutritional measures;
- individualize the athlete's diet plan with respect to the specific needs arising from the annual training cycle phase;
- recommend the use of dietary supplements and sports foods to optimize sports training. - Syllabus
- Syllabus:
- 1. Limiting aspects of sports nutrition
- 2. Evaluation of the athlete's nutritional status (athlete's nutritional assessment tools, training and nutritional anamnesis, anthropometric measurements related to the nutritional state, body composition, energy and nutrient needs analysis, energy availability)
- 3. Nutrition before, during and after exercise (specifics of training and nutrition, specifics of sports nutrition of endurance and strength disciplines, team sports and aesthetic sports)
- 4. Hydration in Sport - fluid intake strategies, autonomous vs. prescribed regime
- 5. Dietary supplements in sport (categorization, legislation, practical use in sport - ergogenic food supplements, regeneration and health-preventive role of food supplements)
- 6. Health aspects of sports nutrition (alternative nutritional guidelines, nutrition of children and seniors, food intolerance, nutrition in time of convalescence, female athletic triad, GIT problems, hyponatremia, remodeling)
- 7. Environmental conditions and sports nutrition - nutrition of an athlete
- 8. Sports nutrition as a scientific discipline (work with specialized texts, processing of research, orientation in specialized literature focusing on sports nutrition)
- 9. Nutrition specifics: running, cycling, swimming, winter sports, team sports, speed and power disciplines, sports with weight categories.
