Course objectives
Mastering Basic Steps and Techniques: - Learn the basic steps of salsa and other Latin-American dances (cha-cha, jive, rumba, samba, bachata). - Master simple dance routines that connect various elements.
Proper Posture and Movement Coordination: - Focus on correct posture to ensure elegance and smooth movement. - Develop coordination between the movements of the feet, hands, and body center.
Improving Rhythm Sensitivity: - Ability to perceive and interpret musical rhythms typical of Latin-American dances. - Practice working with dynamics and tempo in dance.
Enhancing Femininity and Elegance: - Emphasis on graceful movements, handwork, and expression. - Boost confidence and enjoyment of movement through dance.
Physical Fitness and Flexibility: - Improve physical fitness, flexibility, and ease of movement. - Promote a healthy lifestyle and stress relief.
Connecting Dance with Music: - Ability to naturally respond to musical cues and create harmonious movement in sync with rhythm. - Encourage improvisation in dance.
Joy and Self-Expression: - Enable participants to experience the joy of dance as a form of personal expression. - Create a pleasant and motivating environment for the development of dance skills.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: basic Salsa steps and choreography.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to Salsa Introduction to the history of salsa and its roots in Latin American dances. Differences between various styles of salsa (e.g., Cuban salsa, linear salsa, salsa on1, salsa on2). Basic rules of dance etiquette and communication between dancers.
  • Basic Salsa Steps Teaching basic steps for men and women (basic steps, forward-backward steps). Introduction to the basic rhythm and how to apply it to the steps. Footwork: proper positioning, step length, and weight transfer.
  • Handwork and Posture Importance of proper posture for an elegant dance. Basic techniques for hand movements and their coordination with body movements. Maintaining a straight line in the body and relaxing the upper body while dancing.
  • Movement and Leading in Dance Techniques for effective leading and following with a partner. Basics of non-verbal communication between dancers. Basic dance figures: promenades, turns, and cross steps.
  • Advanced Dance Steps and Combinations Expanding basic steps with more complex figures. Dance variations and stylization of steps according to the music and personal expression. Working on the fluidity and dynamics of transitions between steps.
  • Rhythm and Musical Structure Introduction to the musical structures of salsa (typical rhythms, song composition). Working with the dynamics and tempo of salsa music. Recognizing instrumentation and responding to individual instruments in the music.
  • Improvisation and Creativity Basics of improvisation in dance: how to react to music. Developing a personal dance style and the ability to express oneself through movement. Practical exercises to stimulate creativity in dance.
  • Physical Preparation and Flexibility Warm-up and stretching before and after training. Exercises aimed at improving flexibility and strength. Injury prevention and correct technique when performing movements.
  • Dance Etiquette and Performance Evaluation of progress and individual feedback. Opportunities for continuing in dance (advanced courses, dance groups, competitions). Providing recommendations for further development of dance skills.
  • Course Objective The goal of this course is not only to teach the technique and steps of salsa but also to encourage students to enjoy movement, develop their creativity, and enhance partner communication in dance.
