Course objectives
Outcomes of the course is to acquaint the student with the mechanical properties of the locomotive apparatus and to explain the principle of the mechanical loading of the individual body parts, further to clarify how this knowledge can be applied in the analysis of the human body movement as well as in the sports conditioning preparation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of biomechanics studies the student will be able to: • explain basic mechanical laws and principles of human body movement, • define the mechanical properties of the locomotor system tissues, • synthesize this knowledge with previously acquired knowledge about selected biological subsystems, • to clarify the mechanical load of the locomotive apparatus in basic locomotive movements as well as in sports movements.
Syllabus
  • Lectures:
  • Structure and behavior of the musculoskeletal system
  • Determination of the basic parameters of the human body, its segments and the center of gravity of the body
  • Rheology (rheological models), mechanical properties of the tissues forming the passive and active subsystem of the locomotor apparatus (stiffness, elasticity, hardness, relaxation and creep, material fatigue, load and deformation relationship, muscle tone gradation, hysteresis curve, Hill's three-element model, parameters of muscle contraction)
  • Mechanical principle of movement of the human body (biomechanics of musculoskeletal system): biomechanics of joints, spine, long and short bones and muscle biomechanics
  • Diagnosis of mechanical loading of the musculoskeletal system in sport
  • Mechanics of basic human locomotive movements
  • Seminars:
  • In the seminars, students will present methods of motion analysis of the human body and its mechanical load in sports practice based on the study of professional publications
