- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to establish a knowledge and theoretical foundation for developing the dissertation project. Students will work in the following sequence: In communication with their supervisors, students will propose thematic areas and key concepts relevant to the intended dissertation topic. They will contact the course coordinator and agree on the next steps and consultations. Students will review the current literature (theories, empirical studies) and prepare a brief review paper, which will include: Topics and key concepts from social psychology that frame the research objective. Presentation of relevant theories and models in several theses. Presentation and commentary on several significant research studies that provide the empirical foundation for their intended research. The structure and content focus of this paper (15–20 standard pages) will be consulted with the examiner (usually the course coordinator, but it may also be another designated person). The course coordinator, in collaboration with the student, will set the date for the final colloquium. The submission of this paper to the course coordinator must be done no later than two weeks before the colloquium. For the final colloquium, the student will prepare a 20-minute presentation, summarizing and presenting the results of their theoretical understanding and proposing a theoretical framework/definition for their dissertation project. After the presentation (which will usually be public, with the participation of other students and academics), there will be a discussion in which the student will demonstrate their critical perspective, expertise, and creative ingenuity. Based on all of the above, the examiner (usually the course coordinator) will evaluate the student.

- -Be able to write a high-quality review paper that systematically and critically evaluates the existing literature and formulates research questions for their own dissertation project. -Be able to present theoretical and research findings clearly and convincingly, and actively participate in academic discussions at a high level.

- Teaching methods
- Reading in this course will involve not only studying theoretical texts related to the dissertation topic but also critically analyzing and interpreting empirical studies that support or test various theories. Writing will be a key activity for preparing the review paper, which will be one of the main outputs of the course. Discussion is an essential part of the learning process and the development of the review paper. It will take place both during consultations with the supervisor.
