Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen knowledge and skills connected with the application of the problem solving approach and conflict resolution in social work. The emphasis is given to mediation as a process in which a neutral third-party assists the parties in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. The mediator is a neutral person, able to understand the issues of the dispute and knowledgeable about the mediation process who focuses the parties on their values and interests rather than on the conflict and on the positions they have taken. The aim of the interactive course is to deliver information concerning the theoretical, methodical and practical basis of conflict resolution and to experience the use of mediator skills on practical examples (role playing). Intended learning outcomes - at the end of the two-day session students:
- should have better understanding of the theory and methods of mediation process,
- be better able to reflect seriously on the mediation process and on their own communication and mediation skills,
- might be able to develop more effective personal negotiation strategy
