- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
- be knowledgeable of various types of psychotherapy research, research designs and measuring instruments;
- find, process and interpret critically empirical findings in the area of psychotherapy;
- summarize and interpret basic empirical findings in psychotherapy;
- interconnect research with practice, heading for research-informed psychotherapeutic practice; - Syllabus
- (1) History nad social context of psychotherapy research. Basic classification of psychotherapy research. Research on outcome: RCT, naturalistic research plans, control group problem. Clinically significant change. Meta-analysis.
- (2) Process-outcome research. Client and therapist variables. Specific and common factors. „Aptitude-treatment interaction” (ATI) research.
- (3) Psychotherapy process research. N=1 research, case studies. Testing theories of therapeutic change.
- (4) qualitative research in psychotherapy: approaches in qualitative research, examples, qualitative meta-analysis.
- (5) Psychotherapist development research: research on psychotherapy trainings, supevision, theoretical orientation choice, professional development. Activities of the Center for Psychotherapy Research at the Dept. of Psychology, FSS MU.
- (6) Research-practice relationship: possibilities of utilizing research in practice, several important findings, the problem of empirically validated therapies (EVT).
