Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to:
define work psychology, describe core values of work psychology;
conduct literature search and understand the merits and weaknesses of evidence sources;
apply work psychology theory and knowledge;
understand how to critically evaluate theory and research in work psychology;
recognise good practice in personnel selection, assessing performance and learning and development;
describe and apply criteria used for personnel selection;
outline and apply the personnel selection design and validation process;
describe and use different job analysis techniques;
list personnel selection methods and specify their advantages and disadvantages;
specify which selection methods tends to be a) most valid, b) most acceptable for applicants;
compare different methods of assessing work performance and name their advantages and disadvantages;
describe main approaches to motivation and explain how they could affect productivity at work;
evaluate different motivation systems;
explain how learning theories can be used to inform the training design;
identify potential barriers to the successful transfer of learning to the workplace and how these might be addressed;
evaluate different models of training evaluation;
explain factors that influence team performance;
explain the stages of team development;
