Cíle předmětu
By the end of the course, students will be able to: --Describe and consider the phenomenon of contemporary international migration in a global context --Investigate localized migration events in a global perspective --Conceptualize the methods of migration research and assess the appropriateness of single methods for a concrete research design --Design a qualitative research study on a migration issue --Assess the possible contribution of academic knowledge to non-academic social fields

  • The course consists of six contact sessions and individual work periods between the workshops. The actual thematic structure of the sessions and individual work weeks is available at interactive syllabus of the course at IS MU. In 2017 the thematic structure of the course is as follows: 1. Introduction 2. Political participation of refugees 3. Migration online 4. Narrating migration 5. Biographical research of migration 6. Migration in the Czech Republic 7. Reading week 8. International research 9. Methodology of migration research 10. Migration and aging 11. Anthropology of migration 12. Age of Migration 13. Paper peer review
Výukové metody
The workload of a course is 10ECTS (250 hours of work) and it consists of 24 contact hours, compulsory reading (311 pages = 104 hours), paper peer review (3 hours), paper presentation preparation (5 hours), discussion leadership preparation (5 hours), research for the final paper (37 hours) and academic writing (7 200 words = 72 hours).
Metody hodnocení
Minimum for passing the course is 60 points, the possible maximum of the points to be gained is 100 points + 2 bonus points in the following structure: --Discussion leadership 10 points --Reading responses 32 points --Draft of the paper 10 points --Peer review of the paper draft 8 points --Presentation of the paper draft 10 points --Final research paper 30 points --Active participation 2 bonus points
