- Course objectives
- The course discusses new developments and key issues in the European Union. It is based on class discussions and presentations of various positions in the debates. The objectives of the course are to discuss topical events in the EU and improve student's argumentation and presentation skills.
- Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge related to a timely debate in the European Union.
Present arguments on a given topic. - Syllabus
- Twelve compulsory seminars per semester (weekly), each of 60 to 90 minutes. Course outline focuses comes from actual events in the European Union. See the topics tentatively covered in the current syllabi.
- Literature
- Assigned readings for each seminar.
- Teaching methods
- Reading the required literature. Discussion on the topic of the day. Writing position papers.
- Assessment methods
- The course shall serve as a platform for discussing the developments in the EU and its member states. The class meets regularly to debate important issues in a structured way. A team work is a common method of arguments presentation.
Requirements of the course and the evaluation: 6 short opinion papers – max. 18 points; compulsory participation at the seminars – max. 12 points; active participation in the class; min. 18 points required to pass the course
