Course objectives
The course aims to provide the students with the detailed information about the external dimension of the energy policy of the European Union (especially about its history, aims, characteristics, problems, etc.). On successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand to key elements of relations between the EU and the main producent countries (e.g. Russia and Norway) and transit countries (e.g. Ukraine and Turkey) and other important energy consuments (e.g. China and India).

  • Theoretical Reflections on (external) energy policy (Liberalism, Realism)
  • Relations with producent countries (Norway, Russia)
  • Relations with transit countries (Ukraine, Turkey)

Teaching methods
Lectures involve class discussions and require active participation; position papers improve the ability of students to analyze particular issues; readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures.
Assessment methods
The final grade will be calculated as a composite evaluation consisting of three parts: 1) attendance; 2) evaluation of the position papers; 3) evaluation of the final exam.
