- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the phenomenon of international trade and its current liberal international regime. The first part discusses the idea of free trade in historical perspective. Also deals with economic and political arguments for various forms of foreign trade policy. The ideological and historical context of a liberal international trade regime will be disccused in detail.The second part of the course is focused on the most influential economic organizations: General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, World Trade Organization, and selected regional economic organizations (regional integration institutions). At the end of the course students will be able to analyze foundation of these organizations, their tasks, logic of functioning and recent problems. They will mainly be able to explain economic features and trends, which these organizations should be in charge of. Recently there is an important discussion on the platform of ongoing Development Doha agenda and reform of the trade institutions. The Czech Republic is a member of all of them and specialsts in this area are also needed during negiotiations about common position in the structures of the European Union.

- Teaching methods
- The course consists mainly of lectures. Students are introduced the basic theoretical concepts that are subsequently supported by examples. The examples aim to motivate students to think about practical relevance of discussed concepts. The purpose of essays is to improve students' ability to think independently about the most important problems of international trade relations governance by international organization.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements of the Course: 1. Final written examination, 4 questions, 5 points each. 2. Essay on one of the selected topics, max. 5 points. At least 15 points and accepted essay are required for a successful conclusion of the course.
