- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Introduction to Media History Studies is to familiarize students with the key features of media development, especially in the leading countries of the Euro-American civilization space (Anglo-Saxon countries, France, Germany).
The course focuses on the transformation of the transfer and storage of words and audio documents, text and images during human history and the process of formation and development of printed and electronic media. Specific attention is paid to the creation of written systems, the discovery of book printing and its use, the emergence of modern telecommunications and news agencies, the development of printed media from non-periodical production in the form of news and publicity leaflets to newspapers and magazines, and the creation of modern media communication tools such as radio, television, but also the changing forms of media regulation and control, and finally, the global communication revolution at the turn of the 2nd and 3rd millenniums. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to identify and summarize important features of the main periods of media development in the world context.
