Course objectives
The course provides an introduction to practical video journalism. In the seminar, students will be acquainted with the latest digital video tools and their applications in audio-visual media. Students will be guided to gain basic professional audiovisual practices. Through the practical tasks, students acquire professional AV techniques and become familiar potential usages. An important part of the course is reflection and assessment of student exercises. By analyzing sample works, students learn how to realise concepts and their aesthetic outcome. The main objective of the seminar is to teach the students the technical and methodological basis for their independent audiovisual work, as well as to introduce them to general newsroom routines. Thanks to the practicality of the subject the student will be able to independently produce audiovisual broadcasting works. The complexity of the course is based on the requirements of the application sphere, as elaborated in the market analysis.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge - students acquire theoretical and factual knowledge in the field of video journalism; can use genres from the field of broadcasting video journalism;, define specific formats and analyze videojournalistic works. Practical and functional skills - they will be able to use their knowledge in practice when making stories, news, live broadcasting and podcasts. They are able to design a way of operating in small newrooms and coordinating jobs as a crew. They are also able to work independently. General skills - Students as video journalists will be able to use the knowledge and skills in daily newsroom work, work independently, and be responsible as authors of videojournalistic content.
