Course objectives (in Czech)
This course will help students to develop an awareness of the broader industry and an opportunity to develop a professional digital profile that will enable them to share unique skills and achievements with potential employers. They will be encouraged to think critically and reflectively about the media they use and how media sector businesses research candidates. It will also challenge them to learn the fundamentals of media enterprises to prepare for a career in the media industries.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
After completing the course, a student will be able to: - identify and assess their online footprint - understand and create the elements of a professional profile - construct a professional CV with links to their online footprint - understand the fundamentals of the media business and the roles - experience the process of acquiring and holding a job in the media industries

  • 1. Introduction – student introductions, overview of course structure, formats, schedule, requirements, readings, monitoring, evaluations,
  • 2. The Digital Footprint - understanding the online world, researching your digital footprint,
  • 3. Online Professional Profile - developing a personal versus professional online profile including an individual website
  • 4. Professional Social Media - skill development for creating and optimizing social media including YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • 5. The CV - developing and producing a professional curriculum vitae
  • 6. The Business of Media - macroeconomics, media markets, competition, platforms, formats, content, regulations, intellectual property, distribution, business models, revenue channels
  • 7. The Media Enterprise - ownership, management, administration, technics, marketing, programs, sales
  • 8. Get the Job - professional profile, CV, networking, mentoring, searching, recruiting, applying, interviewing, negotiating, accepting, contracts, rights & responsibilities, best practices, tips & tricks
  • 9. Got the Job - orientation, training, documentation, evaluation, rewarding, punishing, promotion, transfer, termination, networking, collaboration, mentoring, career management, best practices
