- Course objectives
- The main goal of the course is to introduce different approaches to so-called dramaturgical analysis be which we mean the specific work of creative producer or script doctor during development and production of audio-visual work.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
- Apply main tools of film neoformalist analysis.
- Analyze film composition especially in recent Hollywood movies.
- Apply methods of discourse analysis on audiovisual content.
- Identify main intertextual meanings in different films.
- Analyze film script with all previously given methods. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, dramaturgy versus script doctoring and work of creative producer.
- 2. Dramaturgy as creative tool.
- 3. Screenwriting and work with the writer.
- 4. Neoformalist analysis.
- 5. Narratology.
- 6. Discourse analysis in audiovisual industry.

- Assessment methods
- Each student must submit at least 6 papers out of total 8 before the class when the film is discussed. Papers must be at least one 1 page long and should answer at least one of ten questions given by the teacher after the screening.
Participation at all classes in compulsory. Eventual absences can be replaced, at most twice, by an essay in the range of 5 pages related to the given lecture.
Final grade will be given based on written analyses of one of the given films, though student must show at least basic understanding of one method used during the semester. All analyses must be discussed personally with the teacher after their submission. - Language of instruction
