Cíle předmětu
The seminar course adopts media and cultural studies methods to examine how gun violence and gun culture intertwine with race and intersectionality issues in the U.S. The objective of this course is for students to search for a deeper understanding of and respect for different values and perspectives while they reflect on the complexity of gun violence/culture in the U.S. More specifically, this course examines underlying assumptions regarding gun violence as it relates to race and intersectionality.
Výstupy z učení
This course encourages students to employ critical thinking on the topics of gun culture/violence culture so that they can examine how race and intersectionality intertwine with gun injuries/deaths. To form their arguments, students learn to evaluate information by focusing on data and statistics from a variety of reliable sources, documentary films, studies of modeling behaviors in psychology and anthropology, and the history of the gun industry influencing U.S. politics.
