Cíle předmětu
The course aims to provide students with an understanding of how global challenges and issues (economic, energy-related, and political) manifest at the local level, with a focus on the concept of path dependency. Through a combination of classroom learning and fieldwork, students will gain practical experience with visual research methods, engage in critical discussions on pre-read texts, and explore the long-term impacts of extractivism on local communities and environments.
Výstupy z učení
Upon completing the course, students will be able to: • Analyze the interplay between global challenges and their local manifestations;
• Explain the concept of path dependency and its relevance to environmental, economic, and political issues;
• Assess the impacts of extractivism and other global phenomena on specific local contexts;
• Apply visual research methods to document and interpret field observations;
• Critically engage with academic texts and incorporate their insights into discussions and written outputs;
Osnova
  • The course consists of two parts:
  • 1.Introductory Block (28 March, Brno)
  • o Overview of key concepts: global/local dynamics, path dependency, extractivism.
  • o Preparation for fieldwork, including a review of relevant texts and an introduction to visual research methods.
  • 2.Fieldwork (3–4 April, Mostecko)
  • o Exploration of a region affected by extractivism and discussions on its economic, environmental, and social consequences.
  • o Practical application of visual research methods for documenting field observations,
  • o Group discussions on pre-read texts and reflections on how historical decisions shape current challenges and opportunities.
