- Cíle předmětu
- Practical skills are an important element in the preparation of students for a career in media, and the Masaryk University online student radio provides a unique opportunity to develop those skills in a "hands-on" environment. Thus, the primary focus of this course is for students to learn by doing assigned tasks in the actual operation of the student radio organization. Particular emphasis will be placed on mastering the fundamentals of a single department, while gaining exposure to the entire radio operation.

- FUNDAMENTALS OF MEDIA - A basic survey of media, including print, broadcast, telephony networks and others. Also an examination of commercial and noncommercial influences on the media landscape. FUNDAMENTALS/TYPES OF RADIO - A basic survey of radio, introducing concepts, terms, systems, and structures, including specific and detailed explanation of the various types of radio operations including state radio, public radio, commercial radio, non-commercial radio, community radio, student radio, internet radio, and others. MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT – Introduction to the external and internal structures and priorities of an internet radio. Also, an examination of the criteria involved in career development, with emphasis on the responsibilies and attributes of successful radio owners and managers. ADMINISTRATION – The leadership and management of a radio operation, including licensing, financial management, physical plant, personnel, and external relations. ENGINEERING – The specifics of the radio “air chain” explained in simple terms that a prospective manager can use. PROGRAMMING – An in-depth study of everything that you hear on the radio and why. Audience segmenting and targeting are discussed as well as comparing various formats. MARKETING - Identifying the message, medium, and target of marketing efforts while distinguishing among different target groups. DEVELOPMENT/SALES – How to build and maintain a successful revenue development strategy, with expert description and skills transfer for managers and account executives. PROJECT PRESENTATIONS – Students groups make oral presentation of their participation in the radio operation using a template supplied by the instructor.

- Metody hodnocení
- GRADING Students will be graded on a pass/fail basis. The requirements listed below will each be graded pass/fail and MUST be fulfilled to pass the course. REQUIREMENTS 1. Attend a minimum of 75% of the organized meetings and actively participate in discussions of the assigned topics. 2. Write a position paper of approximately 600 words about the departmental activities of an assigned radio entity. 3. Produce and present a FINAL presentation on the activites of the assigned student radio department, focusing on the fundamental external and internal structures and priorities from the point of view of a department director.
