Course objectives
The CREDIT TEST for this English course is done 3 times a year during the exam period: (Jan/Feb, June, Sept.)
Please sign up for a presentation time in IS at least 5 working days in advance of the test date stated in IS (the test date will be posted in IS about one month before the sitting). This test is done in the form of an ORAL PRESENTATION.
GENERAL PARAMETERS:
1) THEME: You should be prepared to give an academic presentation from your field of study that will be selected by you to present to the examiner and several other students who may NOT be from your field of study;
2) LENGTH: 8-10 minutes;
3) FORM and STRUCTURE: based on academic standards (i.e. interesting and informative TITLE, INTRODUCTION with purpose statement, informative and coherent outline of MAIN POINTS, SUMMARY of discussed points, evaluative CONCLUSION, polite CLOSING and invitation to QUESTIONS);
4) AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS are welcome (PowerPoint is available); 5) DISCUSSIONS: leading your discussion and participating in other students' discussions to demonstrate your comprehension.

CREDIT EQUIVALENTS:
If students have one of the following qualifications, they can make a request for credit recognition by writing an e-mail (in English, please) to the guarantor of this course, Šárka Roušavá (rousava@fss.muni.cz):
B2 LEVEL (of CEFR Common European Framework):
this is equivalent to MASTER'S CJVA2M English, FCE, Pitman ESOL Intermediate, TOEIC score 541-700, BEC Vantage, TOEFL iBT (internet-based) score 62-91, TOEFL cBT (computer-based) score 177-233, TOEFL pBT (paper-based) 503-577, IELTS 5-6, state language school, or any other B2 level English courses.

  • This credit course is for language competence verification only. There is no participation component, except for the above-mentioned presentation during the exam period.

Assessment methods
There is no participation component during the semester. The above-mentioned oral presentation is required to complete the course requirements.
