Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to make students familiar with key assumptions, concepts and research topics in the field of media and communication studies. Such theoretical knowledge will improve their intuitive understanding of the media, make it easier for them to make sense of the field and help clarifying their further study directions.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to:
- characterize the field of communication and media studies and distinguish different areas of media study and communication (media production, media content, media reception), while understanding their interrelatedness
- explain the basic concepts, models and theories used in the field of communication and media studies and apply them to the media content consumed on daily basis
- discuss the role of media and communication in contemporary society, critically reflect on it and justify its relevance
- use basic terminology of the field in academic discussions and writing
