- Osnova
- The aim of this course is to familiarize students with basic terminology, or vocabulary related to the European Union, the European integration process, E.U. policies, institutions, political development, and history. This course is intended to prepare incoming first-year European Studies to engage their enriched and newfound vocabulary for use in spoken, written, and listening comprehension practice in their other courses of European studies. The primary objective of this course is vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and practice. This course was conceived to be intended for European Studies students and our classes will have a mixed level of English language comprehension as well as knowledge of European Studies. The course materials are therefore quite diverse, and at times challenging, but those students correctly enrolled in the course during their first (or even second) semester of European Studies should not feel unwelcome or discouraged from participation in the course; on the contrary, this course was designed for the beginner, or entry-level Bachelor students of European Studies, so I ask that those students at a higher level in their study programs both acknowledge and be respectful of this fact. Learning outcomes: At the end of the course, the students should acquire the ability to identify, comprehend, and contextualize basic terminology in relation to the European Union and its institutions. Teaching methods: • reading and textual analysis • class discussions • summary and presentation skills • written examination Assessment methods: Throughout the semester you will be assigned different tasks. Each assignment will be worth a certain number of points, with a total possible score of 100. Your final score will determine your letter grade, according to this rubric: A: 100–93 B: 92–85 C: 84–77 D: 76–69 E: 68–60 F: 59 and below.
