This course is meant for bachelor's degree students from the third semester on. It is strongly recommended that Erasmus students willing to participate in this course have passed Introductory Psychology courses before. - Omezení zápisu do předmětu

- Cíle předmětu
- The goal of the course is to get to know the field of cultural psychology and relate the acquired knowledge to the world around us and ourselves.
- Výstupy z učení
- Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and summarize the main characteristics of cultural psychology (CP);
- contrast cultural psychology with general psychology;
- summarize the most profound (cross) cultural differences in self, emotions, cognition and perception;
- describe how culture and psyche mutually constitute each other;
- relate cultural differences in psychological functioning to the ecological and sociocultural context they live in and the experience their culture provides them with; - Osnova
- 1)Introduction to cultural psychology; What is culture; What is cultural psychology (comparison with general psychology and cultural anthropology) and its main principles according to Shweder (1991); WEIRD cultures; How to study culture; The different levels of universalism
- 2) Self and CP; Understanding the independent and interdependent self; Climate, geography and culture
- 3) Getting to know one's cultural identities and the cultural identities of others.
- 4) Culture and perception; Holistic and Analytic thinking
- 5) Culture and emotions; - Evolutionary and social-constructionist approach to emotions; display rules
- 6) Living in multicultural worlds; colorblind vs multicultural approach; interculturalism

- Výukové metody
- The course will happen once every 14 days - 25.9., 9.10., 23.10. (group A), 30.10. (group B), 6.11., 20.11., 4.12. Discussion, debate, lectures, reflection, and self-development exercises, e-learning. Apart from the compulsory literature, we will read papers and watch videos on different topics related to the field of cultural psychology.
- Metody hodnocení
- In order to get to the final colloquium the following is required: - obligatory participation at 80% of the seminars, - readings for each class, - short written papers (max 1 page) submitted continuously - final essay on a given topic
