Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to define key concepts and explain German system of law, especially in the following areas (e.g. law of obligation, law of contract, family law, law of succession). They will be able to discuss German system of law. They will understand the gist of conversations on legal topics.

  • Topics for reading comprehension, assisted discussion and terminology 1. Introduction: programme of the course, literature 2. Civil law - obligations 3. Civil law - types of contracts 4. Civil law - compensation of damage, unlawful conduct 5. Civil law - law of property 6. Family law - marriage 7. Family law - divorce requirements according 8. Law of succession -legal heirs and legal order of succession 9. Law of succession - testament 10.Employment law - employer and employee - worker getting a given hourly pay, employee getting a given monthly salary 11.Employment law - contract of employment 12.Final course. Requirements for the exam in German for Lawyers II Written part: work on a piece of unknown specialized text with a dictionary a) reading comprehension questions b) translation of a part of the text into Czech, 5-8 lines c) reconstruction of an original specialized German text by substituting grammatical and stylistic items Oral part: a) assisted reproduction according to the topics given below b) terminology in the extent of 2 terms subject matter c) conversation on a given topic Topics for the controlled reproduction 1. The course is taught in the form of seminars. At the end of the seminar students are required to take a test before the written part of the exam! The test checks the acquisition of terminology,grammar and knowledge of the subject. The result of the test will be taken into account at the exam. The exam consists of a written and oral part. Students have to pass the written part before they are allowed to take the oral part.

Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to get the basic knowledge of legal German to learn the basic terminology in various areas of law to learn to find information in primary and secondary literature to improve one's skills in areas typical for professional language to sum up the basic concepts of a text both orally and in writing to learn to define basic concepts.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Je vyžadována aktivní práce v seminářích, 100% účast, soustavná a průběžná příprava. Seminář bude ukončen testem. Bude testována slovní zásoba, gramatika a věcná znalost. Výsledek testu bude bonifikován u zkoušky. Zkouška je písemná a ústní. Předpokladem pro vykonání ústní části zkoušky je úspěšné absolvování písemné části zkoušky.

Assessment methods
The course is taught in the form of seminars. At the end of the seminar students are required to take a test before the written part of the exam! The test checks the acquisition of terminology,grammar and knowledge of the subject. The result of the test will be taken into account at the exam. The exam consists of a written and oral part. Students have to pass the written part before they are allowed to take the oral part.
