The main objectives can be summarized as follows: - to be introduced to legal French - to learn specific features of the French administrative and legal system, to get new knowledge and new communicative competences and oral skills, in particular understanding both written and spoken texts.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts in the following areas: Human Rights - History and Current Situation, Mechanism for Human Rights Protection. They will be able to use this information in discussions on specific topics, to explain and to support their arguments. Using acquired knowledge students will be able to interpret unknown texts.

Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: - to be introduced to legal French - to learn specific features of the French administrative and legal system, to get new knowledge and new communicative competences and oral skills, in particular understanding both written and spoken texts.

At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts in the following areas: Human Rights - History and Current Situation, Mechanism for Human Rights Protection. They will be able to use this information in discussions on specific topics, to explain and to support their arguments. Using acquired knowledge students will be able to interpret unknown texts.

  • Exploring and working with the texts relating to the following fields: Modern French Landmark Case Law. International Human Rights - Declaration, History and Current Situation, Mechanism for Human Rights Protection, Judicature, Practice of the courts, translation and analysis. Lexis and grammar of the language for specific purposes.

Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to be introduced to legal French to learn specific features of the French administrative and legal system to get new knowledge and new communicative competences and oral skills, in particular understanding both written and spoken texts. At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts in the following areas: International organisation - the United Nations, European Co-operation, Human Rights - History and Current Situation, Refugee Law, Refugee Status in France, Mechanism for Human Rights Protection, Judicature of the European Court of Human Rights. They will be able to use this information in discussions on specific topics, to explain and to support their arguments. Using acquired knowledge students will be able to interpret unknown texts.

The instruction will be held in the form of seminars, two teaching units a week. Students will receive teaching materials for self-study in advance. The materials will be analyzed and interpreted during seminars. Acquired skills will be evaluated by means of exercises; an individual exercise in the form of an on-line drill coursebook. Instruction techniques: analysis of legal texts, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, independent speaking.

The course is taught in the form of seminars. In is ended by a an examination consisting of a written part and an oral part. Examination admittance requirements: - attendance and active participation in seminars (80%) - successful (70%) final test covering the contents of the term curriculum (translation, questions with open and controlled answers, filling-in exercise) Examination: - written part – working out an unknown legal text (judicature) - oral part – explication and discussion on legal topics Topics for examination: Business Law, Contract,Taxes and Budget, United Nations Organisation, European Co-operation, European Law, Human Rights, Refugee Law, Constitutional System in Switzerland, Constitutional System in Belgium.
