- Course objectives
- The course forms the background of the Human Rights Moot Court Competition organised by the Czech Society for European and Comparative Law. The aim of this project is to motivate students to study human rights by means of an active approach to a specific case, which includes detailed research, teamwork, written and oral presentation and the ability to withstand pressure and stress in the final phase of the competition.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- accept instructions, read the competition case and understand the assignment, including the clearly stated terms and conditions of the competition;
- identify the key legal issues in the assignment and translate them into a mind map or other visualisation of the interrelationships;
- conduct a literature and case law search on the key legal issues in the assignment;
- draft a written submission to the court, first individually (part of the submission) and then as part of a team (full competition submission);
- formulate legal arguments orally and participate in an oral round of the competition to demonstrate both individual and group skills;
- reflect on their participation in the competition, formulate conclusions, reflect on the skills learned and continue to work on them in future courses or competitions. - Syllabus
- The course does not have a predetermined curriculum; students follow the instructions and schedule of the competition under the guidance of coaches from both PhD and Master's studies and under the supervision of the course guarantor.

- Teaching methods
- mootcourt. The method of work in this course is highly individualized, students have a team task which they perform under the guidance of master or doctoral students and under the supervision of the course supervisor. The emphasis is on individual work (research), teamwork (argumentation) and a responsible approach to the competition itself.
- Assessment methods
- mootcourt. Those students who participate in both the written and oral rounds of the competition will succeed in the course. Advancement to the national finals is not a requirement for success in the course.
