Course objectives
The objective of this subject is to provide participants with basic knowledge of fundamental institutes of forestry law. Moreover, participants of this subject shall be able to understand the fundamental institutes comprehensively in context with other branches of law and, further, they should be able to apply relevant regulation to particular practical cases. In so doing, they should use relevant judicial decisions and, next, they should be able to give advisory opinions regarding this issue.students should understand the legal basis andstrategic direction of forest protection at international and EU level in the context of climate change, including measures for innovation After completing this class, students shall be able to work with sources of law and form basic legal submissions and papers regarding forestry law.
Learning outcomes
After completing this class, students shall be able to work with sources of law and form basic legal submissions and papers regarding forestry law. They should be able to give advisory opinions regarding this issue.students should understand the legal basis andstrategic direction of forest protection at international and EU level in the context of climate change, including measures for innovation.
Syllabus
  • The concept, development and subject of forestry law in context with other branches of law. Sustainable forest management in international law and the European Union Forestry Strategy)Proprietary rights and rights to use and dispose of forest. Restitution and privatization of forest estate in the Czech Republic and their influence on arrangement of proprietary rights and entrepreneurs’ relationships to forests. Specifics of handling with forests owned by the State. Forests as components of environment. Tools for protection of forests – classification and characteristics. Economic tools for protection of forest. Liability for breach of duty in forest industry. Compensation for damage caused to owner of a forest.

Teaching methods
The class course consists of lectures of seminars, which are held once in two weeks in four hours sessions (2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of seminars). Lectures are interactive. The purpose of seminars is to discuss issues that have been presented at lectures, dealing with practical model situations, working with judicial decisions and other sources of law. Specific information about the content of the study will be specified in the interactive syllabus. Communication will take place via e-mail and within the MS Teams application.
Assessment methods
Colloquium. Combination of written and oral performance carried out by students on the grounds of tasks assigned by tutors and discussion regarding such tasks during semester. At the end of semester, each student has to present a colloquial work. depending on the epidemiological situation, either online via MS Teams or in person. The form of the presentation will be specified to the students in the information at the announced date.
