- Course objectives
- This course will provide information on the current state of the environment and selected problems related to it on the national, EU and worldwide scale. The students will be acquainted with the political and legal means of environmental protection and care, and with the barriers of their application and its effectiveness.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able: - to figure out his/her own attitude to the environment, - to get better orientation in global environmental problems, their causes and consequences, - to assess the significance of human activities on the environment, - to identify relevant regulatory instruments in respect of specific situations.
- Syllabus
- 1. Environmental policy, definition, aims, subject. Basic concepts. Basic social attitudes to the environment. 2. Environmental policy players. Participation of the public in environmental protection. Aarhus Convention. 3. Global environmental problems I.: ozone layer depletion, acid rains, global warming, marine pollution, biodiversity. 4. Global and regional environmental problems II. 5. Basic strategies to control environmental pollution a) without the state intervention, b) with the state intervention. 6. Instruments to control the pollution
