- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic problems of political theory, especially with general principles of politics, government and state organization.
- Learning outcomes
- - explain the basic concepts of political theory; - discussing the deeper contexts of politics, government and state organization; - apply the theoretical knowledge of political theory to specific situations.
- Syllabus
- Lectures and seminars will be devoted to the following six basic thematic areas: 1) Introduction to Political Theory and Philosophy; 2) Theory of the social contract vs. utilitarianism and welfarism? 3) Freedom; 4) Justice in Political Theory; 5) Democracy, its criticism and defense; 6) Limits on Government: constitutionalism, separation of power and human rights.
