Prerequisites
Key prerequisites are the knowledge of international law at the level of the master programme and a genuine interest in international law. Moreover, the ability of logical thinking and advanced knowledge of English are indispensable. Command of other world languages is an asset.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the subject is, first and foremost, rouse the interest of doctoral students in the topics of the use of force and international responsibility.
Learning outcomes
It is expected that doctoral students will gain a deeper insight into international responsibility of states and other subjects of international law, as well as use of force and enforcement of international law. They will come to grips with the specifics of international law as opposed to internal laws and the Law of the European union.
Syllabus
  • 1. International responsibility - the concept and theoretical approaches 2. focus of individual subjects of responsibility and their mutual comparison 3. Attribution and breach of international obligation as elements of international responsibility 4. circumstances precluding wrongfulness 5. Immunity of states and international organisations 6. Use of force - prohibition and exceptions thereto 7. Enforcement of international law norms 8. Countermeasures and economic sanctions

self-study, writing of academic text, consultaitons and discussion with the guarantor (2 hours per term).
Assessment methods
1. an essay of 10 pages in English language. 2. Evaluation of preparation for and performance during the consultation with the guarantor.
