Course objectives
The aim of this course is to deepen the understanding of several legal concepts by reading non-textbook scholarly texts on these concepts and subsequent discussion. The course is divided into seminars, where each seminar is dedicated to a selected legal concept (law within Czech context, legal norm, retroactivity, rules for construction of meaning of legal norms and the legal dimension of human action.
Learning outcomes
After successfully passing this course the students will
- deepen their understanding of the sources of law relevant to the Czech legal environment
- know how the legal norm is constructed and how is it situated in the Czech tradition of legal normativism
- deepen their understanding of the concept of retroactivity and its (non)acceptability in the democratic state based on the rule of law
- deepen their insight in the complex that is interpretation of law
- deepen their insight into the legal dimension of human action
