Prerequisites
No prior knowledge of the law is required. The course is thus also suitable for students of other disciplines. - The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is an interest in the issues of media law and a willingness to actively participate in the class. This is not only in the form of discussion, but especially in the form of solving practical problems in the field of media and discussing them. Course objectives
The course enables law and journalism students to find a way to communicate about their field to other professionals, brings practical experience and knowledge from the media and legal environment to the students, and teaches that complex social problems or institutions are not dealt with by only one legal discipline.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the limits of freedom of expression and when criminal sanctions can be applied.
- Analyze a legal case and propose an appropriate solution.
- Explain how a journalist's and a lawyer's perspective on legal issues differ.
- Law students will be able to communicate about legal topics with media professionals and vice versa.
Syllabus
  • The aim of the course is to explore:
  • What rights do journalists have?
  • How is privacy protected?
  • How the media can interfere with the rights and protected interests of others
  • What practical matters can be used to assess the admissibility of a journalist's work?
  • What are the means to defend oneself when a journalist's rights are violated? And when privacy is violated?
  • How do the courts judge cases in protection of personality in media law?
