- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge to be able to characterise the legal culture of the Federal Republic of Germany as one of the European legal subcultures.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to:
- define the concept of legal culture and its etymology;
- identify the main features of European legal culture;
- describe the philosophical and legal foundations of German legal culture in the context of the historical development;
- define the constitutional foundations of the Federal Republic of Germany;
- introduce the constitutional bodies, the legislative procedure explain the organisation and competences of the judicial bodies in the Federal Republic of Germany;
- clarify the role of legal scholarship in educating lawyers and shaping the law. - Syllabus
- The lessons will focus on the following thematic units:
- - conceptual definition: culture, law, legal culture
- - Main characteristics of European legal culture
- - Historical and legal-philosophical background of German legal culture
- - Constitutional foundations of the Federal Republic of Germany
- - Constitutional bodies, legislative procedure and legal system of the Federal Republic of Germany
- - Organisation and competences of the judicial bodies in the Federal Republic of Germany, including the role of German jurisprudence
