Cíle předmětu
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with asylum and migration policy in the European Union, the functioning of the Schengen area where both the rights of citizens of the EU member states and the rights of third countries nationals have been secured.
Výstupy z učení
By the end of the course “Migration and Asylum Policy in the European Union,” students should be able to:
- comprehend the core principles and legal instruments governing migration and asylum policies within the EU;
- critically assess recent developments and reforms in EU migration and asylum policies, including the new Pact on Migration and Asylum;
- evaluate how EU member states implement migration and asylum policies and the challenges they face;
- analyze the impact of migration and asylum policies on human rights and the protection of asylum seekers and refugees;
- participate in informed debates on migration and asylum issues, considering various perspectives and policy implications;
- develop and propose policy solutions to address challenges in the EU’s migration and asylum systems.

Výukové metody
Teaching methods will combine lectures with discussion in class, in particular, of cases. Students will be required to read provided materials before the class. They will be also required to prepare presentations in groups.
Teaching methods are determined by the purpose and objectives of the course - 1) the dialectical method of cognition (widely used in the analysis of legal relations developed within the Schengen acquis, and are in conditions of constant development and improvement); 2) historical and legal methods provide an opportunity to explore the practice of using the concept of Schengen acquis at different stages of the development of EU law; 3) comparative legal method – comparing the content and volume of Schengen acquis in external agreements of the EU with third countries, as well as in the process of analyzing the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with the Schengen acquis; 4) formal and logical method (in regard of the scope, content and sources of the Schengen acquis.
Students will develop competences connected with the perception and evaluation of the most important problems in the asylum and migration area. They will be encouraged to develop, to formulate their own opinions, and to deepen the knowledge for understanding the situation due to the methodology (for instance, solving of cases, writing of essay, resolution of tests etc.)
