Course objectives
At the end of these lectures collection a student will be able to interpret useful theoretic result as he could successfully pass through subject exam and could do all metric eye examination connected with contact lens application and own practical application including choice of appropriate contact lens.

Syllabus
  • Basic parameters of contact lenses, optical power determination and its measurement at soft CL, hard CL, changing of those parameters in the process of hydration and dehydration. Contact lenses materials development. General requirements for CL material, specific material characteristics. Comparison of contact lens materials: RGP, hydrogel and silikonhydrogel. Development of methods and current methods of CL production. Types of CL fitting - theoretical, parameter selection and fitting of spheric, toric, cosmetic, prosthetic, therapeutic lens. Patient education, follow-up examination of CL wearer. Indications and contraindications of CL fitting, eye damage by CL.Continuous CL wearing, risks. Correction of presbyopia using CL. Management systems of CL.Specificity and effects of drugs in CL carriers. Corneal degenerative diseases.Stenopeic hole principle used in optometric practice. Innovations in contactology, Working with specialized magazine, including presentation and discussion.

lecture, exam - Course completion requirements are notified to students in the first teaching block including a bibliographic review. The test takes the form of a test review of the curriculum, at least 80% of successful, then student accesses the oral examination
