Course objectives
The course will provide students with a detailed understanding of the structure and physiology of male reproductive cells, including factors affecting their function and methods of processing and examination for assisted reproduction purposes.
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, students will gain: Detailed knowledge of the morphology and physiology of male reproductive cells. The ability to perform all andrological examinations and interpret their results.
Syllabus
  • Spermiogenesis and spermatogenesis Morphological structure of sperm (including interspecies differences), morphopathology Sperm physiology – metabolism, motility, hyperactivation, capacitation, acrosomal reaction Sperm apoptosis, genome integrity (oxidative stress) Andrological diagnostics (spermiogram, vitality, presence of leukocytes in ejaculate, DNA integrity, antibodies against sperm, and SZBA) Clinical andrology (ejaculate processing procedures, auxiliary selection techniques (PICSI, IMSI), fertilization methods, use and processing of surgically obtained sperm (TESE/MESA/PESA)) Factors affecting male fertility (genetic abnormalities, hormonal factors, environmental factors, infections, etc.) Epigenetics of male germ cells
