- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Specialist for Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology (programme LF, M-EZ)
- Course objectives
- Students will get knowledge about mechanism of action of drugs, about their pharmacokinetics, adverse effects and interactions. At the end of the course they will be able to recognize main drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum.
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, the student knows and understands the mechanisms of drug action and their processing in the organism. Student is knowledgeable in routes of drug administration and is able to describe, what could influence the effect of a drug. Student is also able to describe the process of research and development of a new therapeutic from the beginning to the entering to the clinical practice; student will be able to work with the valid sources of information about drugs. Student is knowledgeable in both therapeutic, and adverse or toxic effects of drugs. Student si able to characterize specific drug groups mentioned in the course syllabus with the emphasis on therapeutic and adverse effect and possible drug interactions.

- Teaching methods
- According to schedule given students are expected to attend practicals provided by pharmacology teacher. Students are expected to play active role during a lesson and show interest in a topic. Students work with case reports from real clinical practice and with drug compendia and the computer database of the preparations registered in the Czech Republic.
- Assessment methods
- The participation in practicals is obligatory and registered. To get credits a student has to hand in a paper on a given topic and pass 3 multiple-choice tests on knowledge of topics taught (more than half correctly answered questions required).
