Course objectives
Gain knowledge about the impact of environmental and work environment factors on health. Understand the significance and impact of physical, chemical and biological factors (excluding infectious factors) as well as methods of assessment. Understand health risks and their assessment, and become familiar with the principles and options for protecting public health.
Learning outcomes
- The student will describe the environmental and work environment components that affect health.
- The student will explain the effects of various physical chemical and biological factors.
- The student will explain health hazards and their assessment and monitoring of the environment in relation to health.
- The student will explain the principles and methods of public health protection.

  • 1) Protection of public health, determinants of health
  • 2) Air
  • 3) Water and health
  • 4) Waste
  • 5) Noise
  • 6) Light as part of the living and working environment. Effect on circadian rhythms.
  • 7) Radiation - ionising and non-ionising (excluding visible radiation)
  • 8) Chemicals I, general part: health effects (acute, chronic late, mutagenic, carcinogenic, teratogenic, allergenic, specific and non-specific).
  • 9) Chemicals II, special section: heavy metals, organic compounds, inhalation, dietary, percutaneous, intravenous exposure

  • 12) Work and health
  • 13) Environment in the Czech Republic and globally, monitoring the relationship between environment and health
