- Course objectives
- The aim of Nursing Practice I is to prepare a student to provide comprehensive, highly specialized care for persons with serious health impairments or in immediate danger to life within the framework of the care of an integrated rescue system and emergency admission, and also to prepare a student to provide basic and extended emergency resuscitation of adults and children in whom basic vital functions are failing or where this failure is imminent.
- Learning outcomes
- Student completing the subject:
knows the specifics of crisis management and its cooperation within the IZS;
knows the role of the nurse in crisis management and disaster medicine;
knows the types and methods of using radio communication technology, the principles of communication with the medical operations center, the principles of conducting a telephone conversation during an emergency call and the principles of telephone instruction in the provision of lay first aid and participates in this communication;
knows the procedures for activating the components of the integrated rescue system in the case of a mass casualty of persons;
knows the technical, instrument and material equipment of EMS vehicles and equipment for monitoring basic vital functions, for supporting organ functions and for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and inspects the equipment and material equipment of EMS vehicles;
knows procedures at the scene and performs patient triage, extrication, positioning, treatment, fixation and assistance in their transport;
knows and applies the procedures for the basic physical examination of the patient and for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures;
knows the principles of care and provides care to patients with acute conditions, traumas and polytraumas, shock conditions, acute intoxication, thermal damage to the skin, after drowning, after electric shock, after strangulation, knows the principles of preparing the mother for childbirth and principles of newborn care;
knows and applies recommended procedures for basic and advanced emergency resuscitation of adults and children, including the use of AEDs and manual defibrillators, operates AEDs and manual defibrillators, and performs cardiac defibrillation;
knows ways to ensure the patency of the airways and participates in ensuring them (with and without aids), applies oxygen therapy and connects the patient to a portable ventilator;
he orients himself in medicinal preparations used in PNP and emergency medicine and participates in their preparation and administration, including monitoring and evaluating the effects of these medicines;
knows the indications for admitting a patient to ARO and ICU and knows the principles of transferring patients to the intensive care unit and emergency admission and transfers patients to these departments;
knows the specific work procedures at the emergency department and applies them;
he orients himself in the documentation used in pre-hospital emergency care and emergency admission and makes entries in it;
knows the principles of hygienic and anti-epidemic work regime and applies them;
accepts the content of the practice, his role and the role of the members of the multidisciplinary team;
actively participates in all activities within pre-hospital emergency care and emergency admission, accepts and follows established rules and procedures;
appreciates the professional and cognitive contribution of practice in pre-hospital urgent care and emergency admission. - Syllabus
- The subject Nursing Practice I takes place in pre-hospital emergency care and emergency admissions. Students are members of emergency medical service field crews, intern at regional medical operation centers and emergency departments.
- List of services that students perform during the provision of complex, highly specialized pre-hospital and emergency care:
- handling of linear dispenser, infusion pump, enteral pump, ventilator (stable, portable), heating devices, monitor, pulse oximeter, blood analyzer and other devices in intensive care
- assessment of laboratory values (basic ionogram, urea, creatinine, blood count, coagulation, cardiac enzymes and others)
- basic physical examination of a conscious patient
- basic physical examination of an unconscious patient
- evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, ECG) in a conscious patient
- evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, EtCO2, ECG) in an unconscious patient
- initiation of oxygen therapy and administration of inhalation therapy
- preparation and administration of transfusion preparations and blood derivatives
- receiving and securing a patient at the emergency department
- emergency resuscitation of an adult (possibly on a model)
- emergency resuscitation of the child (possibly on the model)
- ensuring patency of the patient's airways without aids
- ensuring patency of the patient's airways using a laryngeal mask
- assistance in ensuring patency of the patient's airways with an endotracheal cannula
- ensuring airway patency with an endotracheal cannula (on the model)
- ensuring airway patency with an endotracheal cannula
- ventilation of the patient using a self-expanding bag with a face mask
- introduction of an intraosseous entry (possibly on a model).
