- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is a basic introduction to the field of special education in ophthalmopedy with a focus on supporting individuals with visual impairments in the context of influencing their quality of life. The subject provides information about the specific needs of people with visual impairments in individual age periods and about the possibilities of their fulfillment in special pedagogical concepts of counseling and intervention.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to: - identify and summarize important areas of influence of visual impairment on the quality of life of a person according to age periods; - identify and describe the current possibilities of counseling and intervention with a focus on age periods; - understand the needs of visually impaired people of different degrees of disability
- Syllabus
- 1. Community of visually impaired people. The effect of visual impairment on an individual's personality (mental processes, communication) and the effect on the quality of life – acquired/congenital impairment. 2. The influence of visual impairment on the psychomotoric development of a child with severe visual impairment. Possibilities of special educational intervention and support. 3. Early care - theoretical basis of early intervention, and its importance for supporting the child's development and supporting the family. Possibilities of supporting visual perception in the context of interdisciplinary cooperation. 4. Specifics of educational needs and measures for education depending on age and degree of visual impairment. 5. Special pedagogical counseling for children with visual impairments in preschool and school age in the context of interdisciplinary cooperation. 6. Communication of visually impaired persons - specifics of the communication process with a visually impaired person, access to information. 7. Counseling for visually impaired persons - social service providers and their offer with regard to the goals of the services provided and the age of the client. 8. Family of a child with visual impairment and with combined impairment. The needs of the family with regard to the perspective of the life of a visually impaired child. 9. Combined disabilities - counseling and intervention for persons with combined disabilities with the presence of visual impairment. Deafblindness. 10. Specific competences of visually impaired people, their support and strengthening.
