Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to sociology and social psychology both as academic disciplines and as ways of thinking. We will focus on the historical development of these fields and on key sociological and social psychological terms, concepts, and theories. Throughout the course, we will explore how these theories can be applied to examine various areas of human activity, such as communication, work, education, family, and partnerships. We will work with specific examples of phenomena in these areas and utilize various types of materials, including textbooks and scholarly articles, as well as media outputs, statistics, and empirical data of both qualitative and quantitative nature.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: - Present key sociological and social psychological theories - Apply these theories, concepts, and research areas to everyday life situations - Understand the importance of social influences on individual perception, experience, behavior patterns, and biography - Critically reflect on the main research methods in sociology and social psychology - Identify the most commonly used methods and tools in research on health, illness, and medicine

Assessment methods
To receive credit for the course, students must earn at least 20 points out of a maximum of 30 on the final test, which will be conducted online in the IS questionnaire. Students must register for the scheduled test dates. The test questions will be based on the material covered in the course and the required readings. Presentations are available to students in the Study Materials section of the course.
