Course objectives
This subject is theoretically practical. Its conception comes from the profile of a bachelor midwife. The subject matter consists of basic philosophy and science aspects of nursing and midwifery, the elements which form the personality of a professional midwife. The target of the classes is to inform students about how to asses a client in health as well as in illness by particular theories and models (discussion, observation, information extraction from documentation) with a consideration of specific needs of individuals and families. Adequate response to problematic situations in the nursing practice is taught in this subject. Learning outcomes – student is able to: - understand and define nursing and midwifery as a science discipline in context of other science disciplines; - define and know how to apply nursing models and theories in practise; - orientate her/himself in management of non-medical professions; - explain importance of a science and research work for nursing and midwifery development;
Syllabus
  • Subject matter: - Nursing philosophy – holism; - Nursing as a science discipline, definitions, determination, holism as a nursing philosophy, humanisation of nursing, realisation of changes in nursing, holistically theories of illness origin; - Nursing models and theories; - Educational management in the Czech Republic and world-wide (comparison and compatibility of systems); - Competencies and responsibilities of nurses and midwives in health care system; - Professional organisations; - Introduction to multicultural and trans-cultural nursing; - Science and research in nursing;
