- Course objectives
- Aim of the course is to provide students with necessary knowledge for collecton, analysis and presentation of the data and information and for authorisation of hypothesis in research. Students should be enabled to understand the evidence in expert literature, statistical data utilization and valuation of the results of own statistical examination. On completion of the course student will be able to search and evaluate research papers critically and to plan the bachelor´s thesis.
- Syllabus
- Introduction to the methodology of health and medical research. (scientific method, deduction and induction, model and modelling, trial, observation, measurment - nominal, ordinal and metric). Variability in the medicine. Information. Literature use - databases (Medline, Science Direct etc.) How to cite correctly. Basic statistical terms (sample, selection, probability). Basic epidemiological characteristics (person, place, time). Preparation and organization of epidemiological study. Processing and presentation of epidemiological data. Scaling, data entry, presentation of statistical data. Selection and sample characteristics for the study. Sample formation for the study - random selection, sample range. Techniques of random selection. Data description (classing, graphs, indicators). Indicators nominative, ordinal, metric. Types of epidemiological studies. Descriptive, analytical, intervention studies. Types of indicators/descriptors in epidemiological studies. Data collection. Basic principles of questionnaire construction. Types of questions.
