- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
1. Define organs of the cardiovascular system, senses, and organs of peripheral and central nervous systems
2. Identify particular anatomical features of the cardiovascular system, eye, ear, central and peripheral nervous systems (i.e. brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves) including their blood supply
3. Characterize function of organs of cardiovascular system, senses, peripheral and central nervous systems
4. Discuss the distribution and function of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems
5. Relate studied organs with respect to adjacent structures - Syllabus
- 1. Heart, aorta ascendens, arcus aortae
- 2. Arteries and veins. V. portae, portal-systemic anastomoses. Fetal circulation. Lymphatic system.
- 3. Gross anatomy of the CNS (spinal cord, brain stem, cerebellum, mesencephalon, diencephalon) Attachments of cranial nerves to the brain stem.
- 4. Cranial nerves (III - XII)
- 5. Visual, auditory and vestibular systems
- 6. Telencephalon (gross anatomy; grey matter – cortex + basal ganglia; white matter – pathways)
- 7. Blood supply of the CNS, meninges, cerebral ventricles, likvor, circumventricular organs.
- 8. Imaging of the brain. Skin and its derivatives.
- 9. Olfactory and gustatory systems.
- 10. Autonomic nervous system.
- 11. Plexus cervicalis, nn. intercostales.
- 12. Preparation for the dissections. Regions of the head, neck, thorax, abdomen, and pelvis.

- Completion of the subject is assessed by the course-unit credit. A precondition for obtaining the course-unit credit is 95% attendance at the seminars (1 non-attendance tolerated).
