Course objectives
This subject is theoretically practical. Its conception comes from the profile of a bachelor midwife. The subject matter consists of basic definitions, philosophy, science, the elements which form the personality of a professional midwife. The target of the classes is to inform students about how to asses a client in health as well as in illness by particular theories and models (discussion, observation, information extraction from documentation) with a consideration of specific needs of individuals and families. Adequate response to problematic situations in the nursing practice is taught in this subject. Subject targets – student is able to: - orientate her/himself in heath and illness problems; - explain idea of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and care - define and know how to apply nursing models and theories in practise;

  • Subject matter: Philosophy – holism in midwifery; Midwifery as a science discipline, definitions, determination, holism as a philosophy, humanisation of midwifery, realisation of changes, holistically theories of illness origin; Nursing models and theories in midwifery practice - excercise; Educational management in the Czech Republic and world-wide (comparison and compatibility of systems); Competencies and responsibilities of midwives in health care system; Professional organisations; Introduction to multicultural and trans-cultural midwifery; Science and research in midwifery - introduction;
