Course objectives
At the end of this course students have basic knowledge of ethiology of dental caries, its classification and prevention. Students understand relations between other fields of dentistry regarding prevention of caries and periodontal diseases. Part of the syllabus is the teaching of special dental pharmacology and toxicology, including the properties of dental materials. Students will also gain an overview of other products used in DH and ZL - especially cosmetic preparations (toothpastes, oral gels, mouthwashes, whitening products, etc.) and disinfectants.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- Prevention in dentistry:
- Aetiology and pathogenesis of dental caries;
- Dental caries classification, DMF index;
- Early caries diagnosis and treatment principles;
- Early diagnosis of periodontal disease and principles of treatment;
- Early diagnosis of oral cancer and principles of treatment;
- Knows the drugs used to treat diseases of the oral cavity;
- Knows the general principles of drug handling and the relevant legislation;
- Has an overview of the properties of cosmetics, chemical medical devices and disinfectants (biocides) used in DH and dental practice, including legislation;
- Can evaluate the application of chemicals to oral tissues for oral health and preventive dentistry.

Non invasive treatment of dental caries 7. Miniinvasive treatzment of dental caries 8. Preventive approaches and programms 9. Interdisciplinary cooperation in the prevention of dental caries, periodontal diseases and oral cavity malignancies. 10. Medicines used for the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity and drugs affecting the condition of the oral cavity. 11. Cosmetics, medical devices and biocides affecting the oral cavity.
