fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
Student will learn to use his/her theoretical knowledge at the orthoptic teaching workplace of LF MU. The aim of the exercise is to learn to perform diagnostic procedures independently, to propose the procedure and to perform the pleoptic - orthoptic exercises.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion, the student will be able to:
- practically apply the knowledge about the distribution of individual therapeutic procedures according to the nature of the dissociation of binocular vision, according to the optical circumstances (dissociation in instrumental and real space) and, where possible, their home use
- practical application of the principles and implementation of pleoptic methods based on limitation of the dominant eye and methods of developing (stimulating) vision of the amblyopic eye and procedures for normalization of eccentric fixation
- practically apply the principles and the implementation of orthoptic methods aimed at the treatment of the motor and sensory component of binocular vision and their mutual synkinetic integration
Syllabus
  • Exercise is the dominant component of teaching. It is multicentric and individually at the orthoptic workplaces of LF MU. Following the topics discussed in the theoretical teaching will be demonstrated and practiced basic procedures of pleoptic and orthoptic exercises. Students will be led to independence.
  • Practical lesson in exercises:
  • Processing anamnestic data
  • Determining patient diagnosis according to documentation
  • Determination of the therapeutic procedure in a patient
  • Determination of home exercises
  • Examine visual acuity in the distance and near
  • Measure of the pupil distance
  • Synoptophore
  • CAM
  • Localisator, Corrector
  • Convergence Trainer
  • Muscle Trainer
  • Cheiroskop
  • Stereoscope
  • Active pleoptics
