- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are:
1. acquiring basic practical knowledge about the organization of psychiatric care, psychiatric diagnostics
2. acquiring practical knowledge about major psychiatric disorders, their symptoms, course, diagnosis and treatment.
3. practically know groups of symptoms in psychiatry that may require intensive care - delirium and disorientation, agitation and aggression, catatonia and stupor, suicide and self-harm, diet and fluid rejection, somatic comorbidity of psychiatric disorders. - Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
2. Know the nursing process for adverse effects of psychiatric therapy requiring intensive care - neuroleptic malignant syndrome and serotonin syndrome.
Practically apply a nursing care plan for patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy.
4. Know the symptoms of mental disorders and their possible relationship to intensive care.
5. Apply nursing plan to patients in delirium, other disorientated patients and psychiatric patients with somatic comorbidity.
6. Apply nursing plan to restless, agitated, aggressive patients and suicidal patients.
7. Apply nursing plan to catatonic and stuporous patients and patients refusing to eat and drink. - Syllabus
- Assessment of consciousness using assessment techniques (tests to determine qualitative disturbances of consciousness - CAM, CAM-ICU, MMSE, etc.)
- Specifics of intensive nursing care in delirant, disorientated and aggressive patients and patients with psychoactive drug intoxication
- Specifics of intensive nursing care in catatonic patients, in suicidal and self-inflicting patients and in patients who refuse diet and fluids
- Specifics of nursing care in patients with somatic comorbidity, in psychiatric patients requiring care of other disciplines

EXERCISE (practical teaching) takes place PRESENTLY in contact form at the departments of the Psychiatric Clinic of the University Hospital Brno, Jihlavská 20, on the following dates:Tuesday, 25. 5. 2021, 16.00 - 17.40 Thursday, 27 May 2021, 4.00 pm - 5.00 pm
